Why do you want to work HERE?

I get this question all the time. Most recently from Modern Classroom. I have been following their program for years, since it was in one school, one classroom in DC. It is a natural way to teach, and more importantly a natural way to learn. I have built a career on thinking about education and how to make it better, easier for educators and more engaging for students. Feels like their program has the potential to do just that....for some educators and some students.

There is no silver bullet, but this might be silver plated.

The clarity and alignment of learning objectives, as well as the transparent criteria for mastery, preaches the solid foundation of my educational journey. I have been watching the growth of the Modern Classroom for years. The emphasis on independent demonstration of mastery before advancing ensures a deeper understanding of the subject matter and allows for students to build on a firm foundation. With prompt and personalized feedback from educators, students have the chance to continuously improve and refine skills. The program's commitment to revision and reassessment fosters a growth mindset, encouraging students to persist and overcome challenges. Moreover, the strategies employed by educators to motivate learners at all levels would foster a supportive and stimulating learning environment.

Collaboration is a vital aspect of learning. The clear system for asking questions in class would create a safe space for open inquiry and meaningful discussions. Regular reflection on progress and development enhances self-awareness and promotes continuous improvement. These are features and missions built into the Modern Classroom and speaks to my philosophy of learning.

The program's diverse modes of instruction, including one-on-one, small-group, and whole-class settings, caters to different learning preferences and provide comprehensive support. Overall, this program's holistic approach to education, supported by clear criteria, personalized feedback, and various learning strategies, creates a dynamic and nurturing environment, driving students and educators to excel and reach their full potential.
